Hydrophilic Crisp-Smooth Silicone Emulsion

Hydrophilic Crisp-Smooth Silicone Emulsion

Details
Honesoft® DX-5305
Honesoft® DX-5305 is a hydrophilic silicone emulsion supplied as a colorless, transparent liquid. It is designed for cotton and its blended fabrics, to which it imparts a very crisp and silky hand feel while keeping the fabric hydrophilic. The product features low yellowing and good resistance to phenolic yellowing, making it suitable for white and shade-critical goods. It is weakly cationic and can be used directly without prior dilution, which simplifies preparation on the production floor.

Product Overview

Honesoft® DX-5305 is a hydrophilic silicone emulsion supplied as a colorless, transparent liquid. It is designed for cotton and its blended fabrics, to which it imparts a very crisp and silky hand feel while keeping the fabric hydrophilic. The product features low yellowing and good resistance to phenolic yellowing, making it suitable for white and shade-critical goods. It is weakly cationic and can be used directly without prior dilution, which simplifies preparation on the production floor.

Product Features

  • Hydrophilic Crisp-Smooth Silicone Emulsion is suitable for cotton and its blended fabrics.
  • Imparts a very crisp and silky hand feel to fabrics.
  • Low yellowing.
  • Good phenolic yellowing resistance.
  • Good hydrophilicity - softness and silkiness without sacrificing water absorption.

Key Advantages

1. Crisp AND silky - a hand feel most silicone softeners cannot combine: DX-5305 gives cotton a dry, crisp touch with a silky surface, rather than the limp, over-soft feel of conventional amino silicones.

2. Hydrophilic, not hydrophobic: the finish does not build up a water-repellent film, so towels, next-to-skin knits and sportswear keep absorbing moisture.

3. White-safe: low yellowing plus good phenolic yellowing resistance - important for white, bleached and pastel goods, and for goods stored in phenolic-containing packaging.

4. No dilution step: ready-to-use liquid cuts preparation time, avoids dilution errors and reduces wastewater from tank cleaning.

5. Two processes, one product: works in both exhaustion (1.0–5.0% o.w.f.) and padding (10–50 g/L), so one stock item covers different equipment.

6. Cotton-focused: developed for cotton and cotton blends, the substrate where hand-feel and yellowing issues are most common.

Application Scenarios

  • Cotton and cotton-blend knitted or woven fabrics requiring a crisp, silky hand.
  • White, bleached, optical-brightened and pastel goods where yellowing must be avoided.
  • Towels, underwear, T-shirts, next-to-skin knits and sportswear where hydrophilicity must be retained.
  • Goods packed or stored with phenolic-containing materials (e.g. certain cartons/liners), where phenolic yellowing resistance matters.
  • Finishing lines that want to skip the dilution step and dose straight from the drum.
  • Plants running both exhaust and padding equipment on the same product family.

Process Flow

Honesoft® DX-5305 can be used directly without prior dilution.

【Exhaustion process】

Dosage: 1.0 – 5.0% o.w.f.

Process: treat at 40 – 60°C for 20 min → drain → dewater (extract) → dry at 130 – 150°C.

【Padding process】

Dosage: 10 – 50 g/L.

Process: pad → dry at 130 – 150°C.

【Dosage adjustment】

For special types of fabrics or special requirements for the hand feel, the actual usage can be appropriately increased or reduced. Please confirm the final recipe by lab trial before bulk production.

Precautions

  • Store sealed in a cool, ventilated and dry place; prolonged high temperature may cause deterioration and color change.
  • Avoid freezing and prolonged exposure to direct air - both can affect emulsion stability.
  • Weakly cationic: confirm compatibility by trial before use in the same bath with anionic auxiliaries or anionic dyes.
  • Always consult the latest MSDS/TDS and wear appropriate PPE before handling.

Emulsion products should be stirred gently before use if stored for a long period. Do not dilute and store for extended periods.

FAQ

Q1: We want a crisp hand, not a limp one - how is this different from a standard softener?

A: Most softeners and amino silicones are built to make fabric softer and fuller, which on cotton can read as limp. DX-5305 is a hydrophilic silicone emulsion formulated for a crisp, dry touch with a silky surface - the fabric keeps body and drape instead of collapsing. If your target is "soft and fluffy", another grade in the range will fit better; if it is "crisp and silky", this is the one.

Q2: What exactly does "phenolic yellowing resistance" solve?

A: Phenolic yellowing is not caused by the finish - it comes from phenolics (typically BHT-type antioxidants in polyethylene bags, cartons and liners) migrating into the fabric, a process accelerated by nitrogen oxides in storage. It shows up as yellowing on white or pastel goods after weeks in the warehouse. DX-5305 has low yellowing itself and good resistance to this mechanism - which matters most for white, optical-brightened and pale goods that sit in storage or ship in sealed packaging.

Q3: It's ready to use - but does the emulsion stay stable in storage?

A: A silicone emulsion is a dispersion, not a true solution. After long storage, freezing, or prolonged exposure to air it can cream or separate. Keep the drum sealed, store away from freezing and away from prolonged high temperature, and stir gently before use. Do not dilute a batch and store it - dose directly from the drum, as the TDS intends.

Q4: Does more product mean a better hand?

A: No - overdosing beyond the recommended range is one of the most common causes of complaints. An excess of silicone emulsion typically gives a slippery, tacky surface, can reduce hydrophilicity and, on white goods, raises yellowing risk. Start at the low end (1.0% o.w.f. exhaustion / 10 g/L padding), evaluate the hand, then step up in increments.
